Composite decking quotes are valid for 7 days.
BALUSTRADE ORDER CONFIRMATION / DRAWING
Once we have agreed your balustrade design and quotation, we will send an order acknowledgement to confirm your order details, this will normally be accompanied by detailed CAD drawings.
We will request that you check the drawing/s and approve
PLEASE CAREFULLY CHECK THE DESIGN AND DIMENSIONS before approving your order.
Payment is required before we commence manufacture, in some instances we will accept a deposit with balance payable at least two working days prior to delivery.
Once payment is made we will assume you have approved the drawing and your order will be sent to production for manufacture.
SUBSTRATE
All Balustrades we supply are structurally tested to comply with BS 6180: 2011; testing is carried out on concrete bases or steel frames.
Timber base structures may be suitable for fixing to, however this is dependent on various factors including type, thickness and grade of timber, fixing anchors used and balustrade product type.
Typically, Balustrade systems with a handrail are more suited to timber substrates, as this allows the balustrade to be secured to adjacent walls.
The load / deflection performance of our balustrades can vary from the test reports and exceed the "maximum permitted deflection" if installed on unsuitable substrates.
It is the customer/client responsibility to ensure the strength of the substrate is adequate to secure the balustrade, we advise to seek advice from a qualified builder or structural engineer to ensure your substrate is suitable.
All balustrades are designed to be mounted on level surfaces, some minor adjustment may be possible (for example using shims or washers) but this is at the discretion of the client / installer.
Our "framed" glass balustrades can be manufactured to allow for a fall in substrate, where the post heights can be adjusted according to the change in floor level - these systems are priced on application.
FIXINGS / ANCHORS
WPS do not supply floor or wall fixings (anchors / bolts / screws) for our balustrade products on “supply only” orders, please ensure appropriate fixings are used for substrate, please check with a qualified builder, experienced installer or structural engineer if unsure.
Glass
All toughened glass is compliant with EN12150-1 / 2 & class 1 impact tested
Laminated glass is manufactured in accordance with EN12543 1-6
Glass has 5mm radius corners as standard
Laminated glass may not be 100% flush, panels can have a step up to 3mm as per manufacturing tolerances
Visual testing of glass panels should be carried out at a distance of 3 metres from a viewing angle which corresponds to normal use, without direct sunlight or artificial lighting
Glass is not heat soaked unless specifically requested
Water Ingress / Pooling
Frameless systems
The Aluminium channels used on our frameless glass systems can trap water and cause water pooling, if water runs towards the channels we would recommend using drainage spacers, these raise the channel allowing water to pass underneath - These are not a standard product, please speak to our sales team if required.
The TL 6000 and TL 6020 glazing channels have built in drainage holes to allow water to escape the channel, this will escape onto your substrate, if your substrate is not water tight then there is a risk of water ingress.
The fixings used to secure the channel will penetrate the substrate, its possible that water can enter these fixing holes depending on substrate material and fixings used.
Sealants can be used at the discretion of the installer to help reduce water entering the fixing holes.
Additional rubber seals are available to fill in gaps between glass panels and reduce the amount of water entering the channel, these are not a standard product - please speak to our sales team to discuss.
The substrate needs to be designed with water ingress in mind, balustrades are not designed to be water tight products and we accept no claims for damage caused by water.
Post Systems (Framed, Semi Frameless and Wire Balustrades)
Posts systems do not trap water and allow water to pass underneath.
The fixings used to secure the posts will penetrate the substrate, and its possible that water can enter these fixing holes depending on substrate material and fixings used.
Sealants can be used at the discretion of the installer to help reduce water entering the fixing holes
Surface Finish of Stainless Steel
We offer our stainless steel balustrade systems with a satin or mirror polished finish.
Mirror Polished stainless steel has superior anti-corrosion properties (compared to satin polished) and is recommended for use in coastal areas, typically within 10 miles of salt water.
Stainless steel is not maintenance free but is simple to maintain - periodic cleaning is required to maintain the original finish.
Wire Balustrades
Wire Balustrades can be deemed "easily climbable" and NON Compliant with BS 6180:2011.
Please speak to our sales team for guidance, alternatively please check with a building control officer.
EASY GLASS VIEW JULIET BALCONIES
"Easy Glass View" Juliet Balconies are manufactured by Q Railing and are designed to be installed on building facades, reveals or window frames.
The system has been tested to meet the loading's required by BS 6180:2011 for residential use, test report available on request - please email: sales@wpshandrails.com
Q Railing supply fixings suitable for concrete and stone facades / reveals and timber or UPVC Frames**
** UPVC frames must have a steel reinforced inner core - please check product suitability with window frame manufacturer / structural engineer.
The fixings provided by Q Railing may not be suitable for all mounting / site conditions, please ensure the fixings are adequate and will provide a secure and safe installation, if in doubt consult a structural engineer.
It is the client / installer responsibility to ensure that the mounting substrate / window frame is suitable to accommodate the "easy glass view" aluminium profiles, support the weight of the glass and be suitable to withstand the required loading's stipulated in BS 6180:2011
Glass weight is clearly shown on all "Easy Glass View" quotes produced by our online configurator.
